I have a 2017 iMac with the latest OS. Lately, the magic keyboard w/ numeric keypad will lose the bluetooth connection every couple of weeks. Is this likely an issue with the OS? Another website suggested turning off the handoff feature on the iMac might resolve the problem. I really like using this keyboard but the dropped connections are very annoying.

Try resetting the SMC on the iMac. The handoff feature should have nothing to do with the loss of a BT connection. If resetting the SMC doesn't help, unpair the keyboard and pair it again. Also make sure you check the battery level from System Preferernces, Keyboard. I have let my magic keyboard get down to around 48% battery level and it still worked well.

I have previously unpaired and paired the keyboard numerous times and the battery level is always high. I'll reset the SMC.

Did the SMC reset solve your situation?

I'm having this problem as well. I've had to reset the SMC on this computer in the last few months and I don't remember that helping this problem that I'm just now starting to research. Fortunately (unlike the Magic Mouse) the charging dock is in the back on the side so you can connect a lightning cable for functionality when BT is acting flakey. I have found leaving this overnight seems to solve the problem. No, its not a charging issue. The level in the BT menu showed 95% charge when the keyboard became unresponsive.

I think since I did the reset, it's only happened once.
