Trying to get a definitive answer on this. Tried chatting and calling with apple but the chat guy couldn't find any info and the call person said her system was down. I have a MBP with M1 Pro chip. I use it hooked up to two monitors with the lid closed. If I buy the magic keyboard with Touch ID will that allow me to log into the laptop even though the lid is closed? I saw another thread that said you can't use Apple Pay on the Touch ID when the lid is closed but just trying to verify I can't use it to log in when lid is closed also. thx.

Yes, this works. I just did it with my 16" M1 Max MBP connected to my LG 5k Ultrafine with the Touch ID Magic Keyboard. Haven't tried Apple Pay yet so I can't comment on that.

I maybe being a bit dense but do you need to do that? I just wake my laptop with a key press on a non Touch ID magic keyboard.
Just saves on typing in your password during log in. It's a luxury, not a necessity.

Yes you can log in with Touch ID when the MBP lid closed.

I purchased an XDR recently and a M1 Pro MBP, have only used it with the lid closed and it works just fine.

There has been moments where the Touch ID does not work unless you press the button, in this case I just restart MBP and it works fine again by placing finger on sensor. (has happened about twice in a month)

I think this is the article that states it won't work when the lid is closed. Sorry if re-asking but confirming again? Maybe they changed it since the time of publishing the article and the update?
