Hello, I just got a new Mac and need a keyboard and mouse (please don't recommend MX Master etc, I'm used to Magic Mouse/keyboard). Should I buy the current versions or is there any insight for when the updates are coming out?

Thank you

There is nothing to suggest there will be a refresh in 2020 so if you not willing to consider anything else what is available now is your only option. The current magic keyboard with number pad is excellent although it has the bending issue.

Alright, thanks. Are there any non-apple mice without a scrollwheel (just the surface to scroll horizontal/vertical like the Magic Mouse)?

Not really, there are some that are way better ergonomically than the awful design of the Magic Mouse but unfortunately, none have got the surface right for gestures.

well you can pair it with anything you want but it's just uncomfortable ergonomically and the charge port on the bottom is a violation of human rights

I would be shocked if they didn't announce new peripherals alongside the iMac 2020 refresh. The Magic Mouse & keyboard haven't had a proper refresh for 11 years.

Have you used the MX Master keyboard? I had been using every generation of Mac keyboard since 2008 as well as the mighty/magic mice for daily work. During quarantine and having to work from home (on a PC), I got sick of using two keyboards and mice for my Mac and PC. Picked up the MX Master keyboard and LOVE it! After a month or so I decided to get the MX3 mouse. I like it (has taken longer to get used to). The ability to easily switch between laptops (and now my iPad) makes both of these peripherals absolutely awesome!

Point being, don’t knock it til you try it. coming from someone who used Apple-only stuff for nearly 20 years

I specifically need horizontal and diagonal scrolling, I work with graphic files and need to scroll to a random point (graphic is zoomed in) - Magic Mouse I can move my finger in whatever direction I need to go. MX I would need to scroll vertically then horizontally etc to get to that point. No?
