I have a Magic Mouse 1st gen and a standard wooden desk made from particle board. If I use the mouse without a mousepad and just on the desk's surface, the desk will scratch the black fins on the mouse. Some dirt and grime will build up on the fins, but after cleaning you can clearly see chips in the fins. The mouse never has scratched or damaged the desk, only the other way around. I much prefer to use it on the desk but this is annoying. Anyone have any Tips on how to fix this?

Mouse pads are still available at most stores that sell computer accessories. I keep several large mouse pads handy just to avoid the problem you're referring to.
