Quite often when I am browsing via Safari (or Google for that matter), touching, beginning a scroll gesture, or resting my fingers on my mouse results in an unwanted zoom in action. I can usually correct the zoom problem by double tapping the mouse to get back to normal view, but not always. Sometimes I have to close the browser window and start over.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've been thinking of getting a trackpad to replace or supplement my mouse especially when browsing. Would I get better and more consistent gesture results using a trackpad?

Change your mouse options in the System Preferences.

Not sure what you mean. I don't want to eliminate the ability to use gestures with my mouse, I just want to reduce/eliminate the unwanted zoom actions, which sometimes happen for no apparent reason.

Have you checked the the lenses to ensure there isn't a trapped hair or dust etc?
