Hi all,

So I recently have been feeling nauseous / headachey when using both my MBA and Mac mini for work. The MBA is new, but the Mac mini I've had for a couple of years and didn't have this problem before. So it seemed really odd. Then it occurred to me that I recently got a new Magic Mouse to use with the MBA, and started using that with the Mini as well.

I just compared the visual effect of the Magic Mouse to my regular Logitech mouse I was using before, and it is totally different. The logitech mouse has a "clicky" scroll wheel, and the screen does not blur at all when scrolling down a long webpage, for example. Whereas with the Magic Mouse, it has that "smooth" scrolling effect, and the text is blurred as you scroll it. I am beginning to think that this is what is making me feel ill. I actually had this problem when I bought an iMac a couple of years ago and returned it thinking it was a problem with the display. But now I'm realizing that that iMac also came with a Magic Mouse and its smooth scrolling effect. It also seems to happen using the trackpad to scroll on my new MBA, which has the same effect as the magic mouse.

Is there any way to disable the smooth scrolling effect on my Mac devices?

You could go inside Mouse Settings and adjust the scrolling speed and see if that helps.

I don't think there is. You may be able to slow down the scrolling but not sure that will help. I personally do not like the Magic Mouse or the Magic Trackpad although neither one has any effect on me.

Some action games that require a lot of graphics movement have likewise been reported to make some folks sick. Same effect as motion sickness.

It seems like when I use the page up / page down keys (or space bar, or fn + arrow keys) it doesn't do the weird blur and is more tolerable. So maybe I'll just train myself to scroll that way rather than with the trackpad or mouse. Seems like a simple enough solution!
