I'm trying to get hold of the second gen Magic Mouse (the one that you can plug in to charge) and I'm looking at "used" ones that are still new (in the sealed original package), and I noticed some differences.

First, they all have the A1657 model number. This is the model no. for the 2nd gen.

Second, on some it says "Magic mouse", on others "Magic mouse 2". I am assuming the latter are the older models, where the Mouse was still sold as "Magic mouse 2". So I won't be going with these, because the battery may be older already (even though all the ones I'm looking for are still in a sealed package).

Third, and that's what bugs me most, is that they have differences in the Order number. That's the number that often starts with an M or ends with LL. Read more about it here.

And so I am wondering, what big differences there could be between these Mice.

Does anyone know if there's a list of all Apple Magic Mice with all Order numbers? This exists for Macs and other devices on EveryMac.com, but they don't do it for Mice or Keyboards and things like that.

If it's anything like the Magic Trackpad then I think one of the differences is the kind of cable that's included. Apple started including braided USB-A to Lightning cables in the package a few years ago and, more recently, switched over to braided USB-C to Lightning ones. Unfortunately, I don't know which order numbers would include the nicer versions of the cable.

Okay yes, that would be a possibility for different order numbers I guess.

If you want to make sure you are buying the most recent Magic Mouse, just check the included cable. As the most recent ones are bundled with USB-C -> Lightning cables (the braided one), opposite to the USB -> Lightning shipped with the older ones.

Thanks, that was useful and I'll make sure I try to check that. It's kind of impossible to tell though, because I'm looking at sealed products. People sell the mice privately on various online marketplaces, and I only look at the new/sealed ones. This way you can get a new product for just a fraction of the original price.

It's written on the box, on the label on the back. You can check it before buy it.

Oh thanks, that's good to know!

I checked those models offered online, and it seems like on those on which it says "Magic Mouse 2", it only says "power cable included" (or something like that), whereas on those that only say "Magic Mouse" it does explicitly say USB-C to lightning cable included.

But yours is an even other Order number (the one ending with /A). I wonder if there's regional differences, or differences regarding to batteries, or other updates Apple has made.

I think we'll never know 100%.
