Magic trackpad 2 bluetooth question

Does anyone know if I use the magic trackpad 2 connected to my mac with the usb with bluetooth turned off on the computer is the trackpad still generating bluetooth?
 
Mine is connected to a mac mini via usb and I can see it listed on the mini under bluetooth (RT5 LA). I can't see it on my ipad though. So my guess is, yes, it is still running bluetooth.
