Magic Trackpad 3 work with Lighting to USB-A cable?

I know the Magic Trackpad 3 comes with a Lightning to USB-C cable but I have no free USB-C on my Mac Mini. Can I connect this to keep it charging with a regular Lightning to USB-A cable?

Thanks. The cable is just for charging then, with all connections happens via Bluetooth?, or is it able to connect over USB as well?

If you connect it with a cable, it'll charge and communicate over USB.
