I often unplug my MacBook from screen and bring it to another office, for talking/troubleshooting. For my external monitor I use a Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard.

The problem arises when I'm next door, still within Bluetooth range, and my MacBook trackpad is non-functional because I forgot to turn off Bluetooth / disconnect my Magic Trackpad.

Is there a way of overriding this behavior? My MacBook is closed, in a corner. It's not like I would hit it by accident.

In System Preferences, check Mouse and Trackpad in Accessibility. You should find a checkbox "Ignore builtin trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present". Uncheck it.

Thanks! Totally forgot about all the relevant options stashed away in Accessibility.
