Yesterday, with 5% battery life left, my Magic Trackpad began clicking erratically on its own. It would randomly left click, double click, click and drag, and right click, causing me huge problems.
I figured maybe the low batteries were the problem, so I replaced them. The problems continued so I restarted my computer. Problem kept happening. Unpaired and repaired the trackpad. Problem kept happening. Unpaired and swapped to a wired mouse - the problem stopped. That indicates to me that its definitely a problem with the trackpad and not my iMac - or the relationship my iMac has with the trackpad (don't have another computer to test it with to see if it exhibits the same problems on another Mac...)
This may not sound like a huge problem, but it definitely is. In text editors it randomly selects text, the clicks and drags it, thus rearranging my text. Windows are randomly moved on screen or minimized. Buttons are randomly pressed. I was playing StarCraft - it randomly double clicked a single miner, thus selecting all of them, then right clicked somewhere, causing all of my miners to move to that one spot, basically throwing the entire game.
The magic trackpad is about 2 and a half years old now. It's worked flawlessly for me up until now, and has been my absolute favorite user input device ever (better than multitouch screens, the most expensive mice and trackballs I've ever seen, and any keyboard I've ever used. Also better than any motion sensor).
So... any suggestions on what I should do? I looked online for other people with the same issue and only found this:

No follow up posts but 3 people have marked it as a problem that they also have.
