Magic Trackpad freezes if touched with 3 fingers

I use a Magic Trackpad with my Mac. I've noticed before that once in a while the trackpad would (I thought) randomly become unresponsive. But what I discovered today is that it becomes completely unresponsive when I touch it with three fingers. The only solution is to tap the power button on the Mac and wake it up again. Any solutions?

What do you have your Trackpad Preferences set to for 3 and 4 finger gestures?

What kind of mac is it? My 2006 Mac Pro likes to hang with my Magic Mouse almost all the time.

I have a mid-2011 iMac 21.5 inch. I've tried changing settings back and forth but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
