Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro that I often use at my desk with a Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. But since it's a laptop, I often use it elsewhere. The problem is, if I'm not within a few feet of the keyboard and track pad, they'll repeatedly connect and disconnect every couple minutes, flashing that icon on my screen. It's really disruptive and happens whether I'm across the room or across the house. Is there a way to make them stop automatically connecting? I don't want to turn bluetooth off, and manually disconnecting them takes several tries before it "sticks". I also don't want to unpair them because that's a pain in the butt.

Any ideas? I've googled this so many times and never once found someone with the same problem. My backup idea is to get a bluetooth-blocking bag to put them in to block the signal, but it really shouldn't be that hard.

Thanks,

Ken

Which Mac Book Pro so you have? How old is the Mac Book Pro?

Good question. It's 15", from December 2018. (MacBookPro15, 1). But I believe my previous MBP did this as well. The keyboard and trackpad are from early 2015.

Both devices use older Bluetooth chips that have a very short range! Depends what devices are between your laptop Mac and the Bluetooth devices! At 5 feet most Bluetooth devices loose connection after 5-7 feet!

That sounds right. I'm about 6 feet from them now and they're connecting/disconnecting. The problem is it still happens even if I'm on the other side of the house. I'm fine with them disconnecting, it's the reconnecting that bugs me.

That just means that is normal when your on the edge of signal! This same symptom falls in tradings radios as well as other signal the fly through the air!
