Is there a way to make the magic trackpad turn the monitor off?
I have tried using Magic Prefs, but cant seem to make it happen...

And suggestions on how to enable this functionality?

Using the Control Shift Eject button press as a 4 finger click does not seem to have any effect?!?

Would like a 4 finger tap, but it seems this is greyed out with a yellow triangled exclamation.

There is, here are the steps
Open System Preferences
Goto 'Mission Control'
In the bottom left there is a 'Hot corners' button
Select one of the drop-downs representing a corner
Select 'put display to sleep'

Now when you move the cursor to that corner of the screen the display will go to sleep.

P.S. I like to set the password to be asked for after 1 minute instead of immediately incase I accidentally move the cursor to that corner. That setting is changed under Security and Privacy

Why not just enable a "hot corner" to put the display to sleep?

System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Screen Saver tab -> Hot Corners button:
