I do not understand why there are magnetic closures for the flip cases for iPhone 4. I tried one of those and it totally messed up my compass. I didn't believe that the iPhone would have anything as primitive a thing as a real magnetic compass in the phone, but it does. When I got rid of the magnets, the phone's apps which rely on compasses worked fine (like Sky Walk).

I keep on running up against this feature time and time again. Am I wrong and my compass didn't really get screwed up because of the magnet, or are they wrong and continue to sell what they know rather than switch to something more benign (like velcro closings)? I would imagine that someone would tell the makers that it is a bad idea to use magnets, maybe not.
