Hi,

Odd question but would magnets affect the performance of an apple mouse?

Mighty mouse or magic mouse

Probably looking at 1 or 2 of a magnet like this (link)
15mmx1mm neodymium

Thanks,
Luke,

They shouldn't, but the question to be asked is: why do you ask? The cases is plastic so you won't be able to secure the mouse in any way with them.

I'm going to carefully drill a 1mm deep circle into the removable part of the mighty mouse and super glue one magnet into that which will be flush and not disrupt its function.

Then I'm doing the same with another magnet into a piece of mdf which will allow me to mount the mighty mouse when not in use.

This is all part of a project Im working on (redesigned since the below link)
I'm making a test prototype when my uni workshop is open again.

edit; and thanks for the reply

You'd actually be better off just designing in a pocket to put the mouse then whomever buys your project in the future (if it works out) won't have to buy a customized mouse - they could use any mouse they wanted. You have to remember that not everyone uses an Apple mouse with a Mac.

Also think about this - to not intefere with the gliding motion of the mouse you're going to have to have the magnet flush with the bottom of the mouse or even slightly recessed so when it glides it doesn't hang up on the mousing surface.

Successful industrial design isn't easy - lots of things to think about instead of the immediately obvious. Concepts are good, but you have to put yourself in the mind of the end user as well. Idiot proof as best as you can.

Thanks for the thoughts!
Yeh to be honest I probably would put a universal system in for use with any mouse but since I'll be using the prototype I just thought it would be brilliant to make it have no fixing (or invisible). I actually haven't used my mighty mouse for aggges, used a nice logitech one but its ridiculously big compared to the mighty mouse and missed the 360 ball so using it again now.

The designs coming on well :) I'll post a brief update here when I've made the prototype. It might not go anywhere but just decided I'd like to make something in the workshop at uni whilst my assignments are calming down. I don't normally have time for anything else!

Luke.
