Does anyone know where the magnets are for the lid of the new MBP and how close they are to the hard drive? It would be quite bad if the magnets were sitting directly above the HD's

I seriously doubt Apple would make the laptop in a manner that would increase the chance of premature failure by placing magnets next to the disk.

Don't worry about it. Heck, hard drives have magnets in them as well, and they're stronger than the relatively weak mag save magnets in the MBs and MBPs.

Go find a hard drive magnet, stick it to your fridge, then try to remove it.

You'll see that the magnet in a hard drive is so much stronger than the magnet that holds the MBP lid shut that you'll laugh at your original statement.
