That magnifying glass is a function off the Screen Capture application that is being used.
However there is a simple way to zoom in OS X:
Press: Option + Command + 8 to turn on or off the ability to zoom.
Once it is one press Option + Command + "+/-" ( + for zooming in and - to pan out)
