In a van down by the river
Magnum P.I. is now available on iTunes in HD. It has the original music as well as recaps from last week's episode, and original aspect ratio. The complete series is on sale right now for $35.00

I am thrilled, even though I just bought the region 2 Blu-ray set a few months ago.

I was going to wait for the Bluray but when I saw it as a recommendation I had to buy it and I never buy TV shows digital but for that price I could not resist. Quality is excellent in full HD. When it was on NF it looked terrible.

Question though does the TV app on the Apple TV download the entire episode while watching as I noticed it? As it will avoid fluctuations in internet speeds otherwise if it used adaptdumb streaming and I wish more services would do this instead of using that adaptive garbage.

Unless you download ahead of time, each episode will be streamed on demand.

I have downloaded the first 5 seasons thus far. Almost 300 GB for the complete series.

Weird as the progress bar on the Apple TV shows it being filled up while streaming the theme song before the episode starts.

I’m not at home to look but I didn’t realize you could download to an AppleTV. For some reason I thought everything was streaming only.

Yes I have a 4th Gen Apple TV. I wish more apps on the Apple TV did this then there would be no complaints about adaptive poor quality which is why I always hated adaptive streaming only buffers ahead about 2 minutes I prefer the episode buffer ahead while watching.

The only time adaptive streaming is needed if it is a live stream but if it is on demand it makes no sense and causes more issues.

Do you know how turning off Quick Start might help. I understand it buffer portion of the movie so that it starts in full quality before playing? When I have quick start enable, the show starts right away but will be pixels for a moment or so then clears up. I still get a fast start with the setting off but it starts without any pixels. I have a 100/100 fios connectin.

I’ll google the 2 types of streaming you mentioned as I’m not familiar with the differences. If anyone knows a basic way to explain the two, I’d appreciate it. I have this stupid inner struggle where I can’t decide to just stream from iTunes in the cloud or Home Share from my local library. I have tried Plex and Infuse, but neither were for me. I have a MacBook Pro and I would keep the iTunes library on an external drive, but hate having to dismount and disconnect the ext HD every time I want to take my MacBook down for use.

Anyone else experiencing Magnum P.I.not currently available in the iTunes Store (U.S.)? I was trying to finish downloading the series several days ago, and have been stuck at season 7.
[doublepost=1536713890][/doublepost]Just got done with iTunes support chat. The complete series purchase the I made for $34.99 on release, is no longer available. I wasn't unable to finish downloading all the episodes before they pulled that particular series option. If you want the series, or need to make a backup of particular seasons, you will need to purchase the individual season(s) needed.

Support issued me a refund for the series. Not happy that it was pulled so quick. I had gotten to Season 7,3 before it disappeared from the U.S. store.

Strange, it's still there in my purchased history, and downloads just fine.

That is strange. I even tried on one of my phones and it said not available in the U.S. store.

I am thinking the powers that be saw the low price of $34.99 and noted someone had lost their mind issuing the series at that price. iTunes resisted it at $70 a few days ago, and now its gone.

It is a shame I couldn't finish downloading. I did notice that many of the files are slightly larger with the individual seasons.

If the worst comes to fruition, I do have the series on Blu-ray.

If I click on the series listing in the main store, it shows as not available, but it is still in my list of purchases. It downloads fine and streams on the Apple TV without a problem either.

Same thing happened to me. This is the first and last time I every buy anything from the rip off iTunes store again. What kind of crap is that you purchase it and then the studio's can pull it at anytime. Bad enough they pull licences content from subscription services which after they say buy it digital but even that is not safe.

Screw this I am sticking with physical media forever which I own forever. Now I got to beg Apple for a refund.

Also BTW where did you get Magnum PI on Blu-ray I looked on Amazon and I can't find it? I already ordered Air-Wolf and Night Rider on Blu-Ray from Amazon.

Update did that chat got a full refund. Person said they can pulled purchased content anytime. What a joke they can pry disk's from my cold dead hand before I switch over to digital purchased crap. I own disk's forever unless I get robbed but digital content is robbery and should be illegal.

I got the Magnum P.I. Blu-ray set for Amazon Uk ($150). The set is region B locked. You would need a region-free Blu-ray player to view the discs on your t.v. My set plays just like I had bought it here at the home Best Buy.

That stinks. I don't want to deal with overpriced UK imports that may not work. Any news on a BluRay Region 1 release? I refuse to buy it digital anyway even if they offer it cheaper then they had it it leaves a sour taste and I refuse to buy digital knowing just like streaming subscriptions they can still remove it over some stupid licensed deal like a has been actor or some one hit wonder song.

So far I can get Region 1 Blurays of
Knight Rider, Air-Wolf, Rockford Files, Quantum Leap, Miami Vice (waiting for a price drop on Amazon) but besides Magnium PI, The A-Team, The Incredible Hulk, Colombo have no Region 1 BluRay release.

I haven't seen any reports of a U.S. release.

http://www.blu-ray.com. is a great place to keep abreast of new and upcoming releases, as well as read reviews on discs quality. I have been a member there for years. Good site.

Just looked on my iPhone and it shows the series there. I also played a couple minutes of the first episode. Weird that it’s pulled for some people and not others.

Edit: the complete series shows up in the store for me too.

just looked on iTunes (US). Complete series is available for $69.99.
It did not for me until I got a refund. A scam from the rip off TV store if you purchased it at $35 you can't watch it only if you purchase it at $70 which of course can still be pulled because of stupid streaming licenses.

Still surprised a premium network like Starz which I never liked no good movies, all mature originals have Magnum and A-Team in 1080p HD never expected that.

Magnum was on Netflix for awhile. Sad that it is no longer there.

Regarding your comment re: streaming licenses, I fully agree. Most things I prefer to purchase as a hard copy. Or if on iTunes, immediate download onto computer. Streaming purchases are a little too risky IMO.

The first incident I heard about had to do with an eBook on Kindle. People bought the book but the license was changed and it went away. If the book was not downloaded, it could not be read.

But video downloads are DRM'ed which means I have to use that POS iTunes to play them. No thanks. At least with music albums I can play them using any player but I won't buy music either unless I can purchase them lossyless.
