MagSafe 2 connector is moody

Occasionally, my 2012 rMBP will not charge when I connect my MagSafe 2 charger. When I unplug the connector and connect it again, the laptop charges. Is this a problem with the hardware (port or connector) or the software? Has anyone else noticed this?

I am running Mountain Lion.

i had the same issue with my 2011 MBA, tho with the previous magsafe version. get a q-tip and clean out the slot and connectors.. you'll find that the q-tip will get dark.. i assume this is some of the magnet that has worn off. it works well now after doing this.
