I picked up the magsafe battery pack as my desk magsafe charger that doubles as a battery if I need some extra juice. But in using it I realized it is missing a huge feature…Find My.

Adding basic airtag hardware into the battery would mean that now you can “ping” and find your battery pack or the bag that it is in, and also means you can now wirelessly always know the charge of the battery. It is such a simple feature idea, that it is astounding that Apple didn’t implement it - I would have shelled out $129 for a battery with that feature and their production cost would have been cents. I use the battery pack on my desk, but I have my office desk and my home desk, and when using the battery I will occasionally leave it around the house, or in a backpack. In those cases find my would be ideal.

But alas, it seems the AirTags team worked in isolation for the past 5 years they have been in development, and they apparently took the rest of apple for surprise since no other apple products implement the protocol, not even the iPhone uses the low power mode until iOS 15 is released.

Yeah Apple seems to inconsistently roll out find my and U1 on Apple devices. If it was just me, every single Apple product with a battery would have U1 and Find My integration (MagSafe battery, TV remote, Apple pencil, AirPods, etc.). Maybe there are limitations that we‘re not aware of, but it’s still disappointing

Let me remind you how Apple now works. What you are talking of, Apple is going to bring that out, either as a second revision of the battery pack or as Battery Pack Pro or Battery Pack Max. It is how they will make people buy the new pack two years on.

That aside, I am with you on all counts. It should have been in there. I can’t think of any reason except what I stated as to why they didn’t include it.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll end up seeing it in next year's battery pack, along with it being color matched to the new iPhone colors (Or at least having a black option.)
