I want to share something and I hope Apple would consider this option for later update,
Imagine what if Apple put new option for all iPhone 12 Lineup to limit the charging power from MagSafe just to prevent the hot temperature?

A "slow charging" toggle in settings would be nice... but Apple tends to abstract such things away from the user.

Check Amazon, "YooTech" makes a QI charging puck with a ring of Magsafe magnets. It works like Magsafe, but maxes out at 7.5w. This might be a good option for you.

Warm temperature is fine because it won’t charge warm for long. However hot temperature isn’t good. Could be something wrong and I would get in touch with Apple.

I've done some pretty simple testing with my handy little wattage meter. No matter the temp after about 50% the charger throttles pretty significantly ,most of the time hovering between 5-7 watts tbh it slows down a lot, going up to 15 in bursts

If you use any brick lower than Apple’s 20w, the phone will charge at a lower watt which will, or should, prevent hot temperatures while charging.

Incorrect. I’m using an 18w apple charger and it still chargers at 15w with MagSafe.

Ok then. That wasn’t my understanding based on Apple indicating that charging would be at 7.5w with any brick lower than their “new” 20w brick. Maybe I misunderstood.

any third party should charge slower. Id just go for a low watt one. Anything under 15 should drop it to the lower charge level.

Agree that it would be convenient to have an option, especially if the MagSafe if used for night charging.
I charge my phone with the MagSafe plugged into my MacBook Pro but it still gets warm

No. This was based on an early rumor that has been repeatedly disproven. Third party chargers with USB-C PD 3.0 and > 20W will charge at the normal rates.

Link to a YouTube video? The ones I’ve seen show slower speeds with anything other than apple chargers

This is the one I have in my youtube favorites. The Baseus charger he shows is one I happen to own. I've been able to confirm the same result with my USB-C tester and pretty much every USB-C PD 3.0 charger I own... including the one in my car.

I use my Magsafe to charge my phone overnight. Woke up to pee around 3am the other night and happened to look at my phone. Noticed it was charging, but was only at around 40% (after 3-4 hours on the charger) then also noticed a notification saying that the phone was optimizing charging so that the phone would be at 100% at my typical 7am wakeup. No idea what setting enabled this feature, but I’m happy the phone is smart enough to not rapid charge the battery only to then trickle charge it for 5-6 additional hours. Also likely explains why my leather case has zero indication of Magsafe use even after over a month.

Yep this is what I’ve been saying to those that say fast charging is bad. It’s great.
