I’ve had an iPhone 13 mini since launch day and I’ve been using the Belkin “BOOST CHARGE PRO 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe” dock (which is a certified MagSafe device) to charge it each night, but I’ve noticed my battery settings reporting power being connected and disconnected several times each night:

It looks like power was interrupted 3 or 4 times last night while I was asleep. Sometimes it’s more like 5 or 6. Note how my battery level does not seem to change during this time (ie. it’s not stopping at 80% and resumes charging later, it’s going straight to 100% and stays there until I wake up and remove it from the charger), which leads me to think the interruption is very brief and potentially an issue either with the dock or MagSafe itself? I’m concerned this is why the optimised battery charging hasn’t kicked in yet, and how this could affect my battery health long term.

For anyone with an iPhone 13 - has optimised battery charging kicked in for you yet?

For anyone who uses a MagSafe charger with their iPhone (Belkin or otherwise) - do you also notice this type of connecting/disconnecting when charging your phone over longer periods?

Thanks.

I have a 13 mini and optimized battery charging hasn't kicked in yet. I think it takes about 2 weeks of a regular charging routine to kick in.

I'm using a Choetech MagSafe charger and MagSafe Duo and not having disconnecting issues.

Current requirements of the phone needs could be dropping below the minimum the charger can output. Just a guess, you would need a usb tester plugged in at the same time and see what the current is at those moments.

I’ve found that the battery usage graph can be unreliable. I always leave my phone turned off completely and unplugged overnight, but sometimes the battery SOC graph will show that the phone was charging all night - which is impossible.

Having a charger turn on & off all night won’t hurt the battery at all. It’s actually easier on the battery than constantly charging- so don’t worry about that.
If the battery is charged up when you get up, that’s all that matters.

I was referring more to the constant connecting/disconnecting overnight potentially preventing the optimised battery charging feature from establishing a correct pattern, thereby not functioning properly which may lead to worse battery health over the long term.

To ensure it’s not an issue with the battery usage graph I’ve created a shortcut which logs each time my phone is connected and disconnected from power. It only happened once last night but it definitely happened. 5:11am is when I removed it from the charger myself.

Not sure if this is related, but my new iPhone 13 with an Apple MagSafe charging pad thingy is connecting and disconnecting. It’s really annoying past. It seems to be happening when I’m holding it though versus when it’s just sitting there.

It took about 2 weeks post purchase for optimized charging to kick in for me. I used to use a qi wireless pad but with the 13 I’ve switched to charging with a lightning cable + 5w charger to reduce stress in the battery

Hi,

Can you share how you have setup this shortcut?

Both my watch (7) and iPhone 14 pro connect and disconnect on MagSafe. I bought a dual wall charger thinking it was because I had it plugged into an extension lead. But I’ve just had to turn the wall socket off and on to get both to charge at the same time.

it’s very annoying.

Did you ever fix this issue, If so, how?
