Hi everyone,

I have recently got a wireless CarPlay adaptor for my car and have stuck a high power cigerette adaptor in with a MagSafe adapter but it seems to be struggling to even keep up with charging whilst car playing. I usually arrive with about the same battery percentage as I started even though the phone shows as charging.

I have the following items:

Plugging a lighting cable in to the USB-A socket of the 12V adaptor charges fine so it must be capable of faster charging than I am getting through the MagSafe.

Cheers,

Tom

Charging through lightning (with PD) is usually faster than mag safe/Qi.

The latter also works, but your phone may get too hot and stop charging. That’s what happened to my iPhone on several occasions, so I have to be careful not to place it in the wireless charger.

I ran into a similar issue with (factory) wireless CarPlay, when I was using a 3rd party MagSafe charger. I read this article & then got an Apple USB-C MagSafe charger, and a 30W USB-C cigarette plug adapter. That solved it for me!

You need this with the Apple MagSafe. It keeps mine charging and usually 100% by the time I arrive on my trip. Search for this on Amazon. Of course you’ll need the other two items to help charge it and mount it.

The ball on the mount fits other mounts too.
