My magsafe cable is blinking amber while i connect it to my 2021 16’ Macbook Pro.
I brought it to Barcelona biggest Apple store , we realized it was not cable or charger, He told me i have to pay 750 euros and they will send it to Czech Republic to inspect it and fix it, and if its less they will return money.
I refused, it is not that big of a deal because it charges normally through usb-c. I came home and ordered magsafe port from apple and replaced it by myself. Issue still persist afer replacement.
The laptop is only 1 year and 2 months and it is bit annoying that magsafe port is already not working.
Im just wondering, anybody knows which part is likely faulty if its not magsafe port itself. Is it really likely posible that whole logic board needs to be changed? Thank you for your answer.

i don't know if this is a related issue or not, but lately i have also started having frequent magsafe charging issues with my 2021 16" macbook pro.

when i plug it in, it does not charge. and it is not an optimized charging situation. the laptop will completely drain and upon noticing the low battery warning i'll see that it hasn't been charging the entire time. the cord and port both look clean and in pristine condition. also this never happened for the first year and a half of ownership (so i don't think its that i suddenly don't know how to plug it in properly - i've also been using macbooks since 2008 and never had this happen). but now it happens nearly every other day.

usually unplugging and plugging back in will eventually get it to recognize the cord, but sometimes this needs to be done 2-3 times. i can't tell if its a hardware or software issue. i guess i can try using usbc charging for a while to see if the issue goes away, but i really appreciated the return of magsafe and i generally make use of all my usb ports so this is an inconvenient regression :(

Are you using the original Apple power brick or a 3rd party one?

MacBook Pro 16-inch M3 pro Magsafe 3 port blinking, doesn't charge. USB-C port charges

Macbook was purchased in Apple Soho, New York on May 17th, 2024

Magsafe 3 port stopped working on July 29th, 2025 in the middle of charging.

Visited Apple Amsterdam on July 30th, 2025.

They tried using their own MagSafe 3 power adapter, the problem persisted.

They had a look using magnifier on both the MagSafe 3 port and the pins on the MagSafe 3 power adapter and found no moisture / damage whatsoever.

They took the MacBook in for Restore/revive, later informed that the problem persisted.

They proposed to do a Hardware Repair Level 1 and quoted EUR 138.21 before tax. They declined to even consider providing discounts to the reparation fee, given the MacBook is only 14 months old and 2 months out of warranty.

I rejected the proposal and took my laptop back on August 1st, 2025.

I have tried:

  1. cleaning the MagSafe 3 port and the pins on the MagSafe 3 power adapter using microfiber cloth and toothbrush, the problem persists.
  2. using the same MagSafe 3 cable with IKEA power adapter, the problem persists.
It was my largest apple purchase ever and sad to see that it would be my last.

Have any of you guys faced the same issue with the MagSafe 3 port?

Appreciate any solutions.

This seems to be a common issue if you Google it. Have you tried using a different cable?

Did you try to clean the Magsafe port?

So it's your last Apple purchase because they wouldn't discount/repair a device for free that first exhibited issues two months AFTER the warranty expired? The rate they quoted you is actually well below what it would cost in the US, so you were already being offered a discounted rate in comparison.

Also if you use a battery health third party app like al dente- try to raise the battery charge limit to 100 or disable it entirely. It can still cause the MagSafe 3 charger 🔌 to have an amber light once it hits it limit, but that app also occasionally would have your Mac override to charge to full battery or over the limit.

Even though you thought the port is done for and it wasn’t due to how it was dirty or not- it is very important to use only OEM Apple MagSafe 3 cables. Don’t get the scammy knockoffs from temu or Amazon. Only buy them from Apple Store or Target, any store that is an Apple authorised retailer like BBY or micro center.

A real MagSafe 3 cable would have Apple engraving on the USB C end of it and there should be no rough edges on the aluminum ends, and shouldn’t be plastic on any part of it.
