I have a mid 09 MBP that the magsafe shorted out a few nights ago. I know when I had my macbook, they replaced it without any hassles. I was wondering if they still are replacing them out of warranty. I haven't seen recent posts about people getting them replaced still. Just curious.

With out of warranty repairs that aren't REP (Repair Extension Programs), it's basically always case-by-case as to coverage.

Take it to an apple store and try. They don't have to, but they might.

Mention sparks or some other safety hazard. I can almost guarantee you will get a new one.

I'd contact AppleCare or drop by a Genius Bar if you get the opportunity, explain the situation, they may replace it out of warranty without any hassles.

OP:
If you have no luck with Apple, let me know. I have a spare (brand new). Let me know and we can work something out (BTW, its on eBay now with no bids).

Apple had replaced MBP 13" and let me keep my original power adator, so I have a spare.
