I'm about to buy my first MBP with Retina notebook and more disappointed than you would think that all of my other MB and MBP power cords won't work with it.

sorry for the dumbest question ever, but as usual I will get a quicker and better answer here than anywhere in corporate apple land.

Will this handy $9 converter convert an old MBP power cord to the one that the MBP with Retina display uses ? I hope so, but unfortunately I can find no information about what the converter actually does and what it does it to. Sorry for being such a dummy, but if it will make my old power cords functional on my new machine it would be completely awesome. I'm fearful that apple is not making it so easy though.

Thanks in advance !

According to the product description here, this is what it does:

The MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter allows you to use the MagSafe connector on your LED Cinema Display, Thunderbolt Display, or MagSafe Power Adapter to charge your MagSafe 2-equipped Mac computer.
