I was listening to John Gruber and he said the use case of the magsafe wallet was not suppose to be for it to be put in your pocket with the phone. Do you know what he was referring to? Is the wallet suppose to be carried separately and only attached in rare occasions?

Don’t know, but the risk of losing the wallet as it disconnects is one of people’s criticisms.

seems easy for Apple to solve ...

the phone already detects the presence / absence of the wallet and displays the MagSafe icon and makes a little tone. Why not have the option of phone alarming if the wallet is disconnected when the phone is locked?

I have the case and I do not find it useful as you have to take it off to wireless charge. I can see myself using it when I go out and do not want to bring the full wallet as this fits at max a license and 2 cards. Being that most of us are not going out much right now due to COVID, it is pointless to have it.

I just got mine two days ago and LOVE it. I live in Manhattan and have been using wallet cases for 4 years since it's one less thing to have to carry around. That being said, when I'm sitting around at home or at my desk at work, I don't need to be holding my wallet in my hand just to use my phone. Also there are many instances when I don't need my wallet with me and would prefer not to have the bulk (going for a run, the gym, etc). So now, I have the MagSafe wallet. Attaches to my phone when I'm on the go, but removable when I'm not to enjoy the nice form factor of my iPhone mini. And now I can wirelessly charge by popping it off and placing it on a charging mat. I love it, I think it's perfect.

Yes it only carries 3 cards, but with the ubiquity of contactless payments in the city, there's no reason to carry a full wallet around anymore. All my insurance cards are saved as PDFs on my phone. I pretty much only need a card for restaurants and my ID.

also, not sure what all these YouTube reviewers were talking about when they said the magnetic strength sucks and that it slides off when you put it in your pocket. This thing sticks on pretty dang well, both with the MagSafe case on and without it. I'm a proud homosexual who wears some pretty tight pants and haven't had any issues with putting it in my pocket. Maybe Apple put stronger magnets in them after the initial reviewers gave negative reviews? Who knows.

Wallet works well for me ..... I think really depends on your expectations..... for me it works in a scenario where I would normally carry both my phone and a couple of cards or a small card wallet separately .. .. now I can hold them both with reasonable security (I tend to only use it for my Medical card and National ID card and sometimes gym card) ..... I don’t have any expectations of the wallet being stuck like glue to the phone .... IMHO opinion it’s not designed for that. The idea is to pull it on and off as you need the cards, hence the slot on the back to easily push the cards out. .... of course I’m sure others will disagree and have different expectations .... I also find it useful in a scenario where I use my phone without a cover .... I can then rest the phone on the wallet without risk of damage to the lenses ....

I previously used a minimal wallet before magsafe. I kept the wallet and phone in separate pockets and had to make sure keys were not with the phone to scratch it. Having phone + wallet together does seem to make it a tad more simple for me lol.

I think the use case could be used together outside of the pocket or could be a pocket sandwich too. I envision having it attached to my phone when I’m at a bar or seeing a band or anything where you want both handy. It could be attached under the phone as you sit it on the bar to stay a bit hidden. But the hold feel of using your phone with it is also great. Loving it so far. Just got my mini so we shall see long term.
