I generally love MagSafe, the brilliant tripod and multi threaded mounts from Moment are so quick and convenient.

But I've dropped my iPhone 12 Pro a couple of times (that's the reason I have a case) and it seems that the Apple MagSafe silicon case is not strong enough to prevent the phone popping out on impact and being damaged by hard concrete. You can see in the photos below how the phone has clearly been dinged by the floor, and the case has hardly done anything to protect it. When I've picked it up off the floor the phone has been hanging out of the case. Plus Apple doesn't seem to have improved the physical material ruggedness of their silicon cases at all.

Just a warning for anyone that thinks the MagSafe cases offer the same level of protection as previous silicon/leather cases.

If you have apple care plus, smash the phone on the pavement a few times, then off to apple for a replacement phone, problem solved. 😃😂

I had a similar experience with my Decoded leather case. I think it's more the case design most companies are using rather than a dig on Apple specifically. Hopefully manufacturers are paying attention.

Ah, yeah the MagSafe magnets perhaps are not strong enough to deal with a drop impact. Would be nice then if they retained some of the lip from the previous silicon case design.

Yep. One of the few reasons I decided to order a Caudabe Sheath. It has that lip to prevent these little accidents and it'll hide the one I already have.

Ah good to know, thanks. They look nice and simple, apart from the horizontal groove from the camera.
