Mail 3.6 is changing background of a jpg

I emailed my mother a .jpg file, the background of the file is white.
When she receives the attachment, the file is fine.
The trouble comes in if she tries to forward, replay or make a new email and put the .jpg file in as attachment. The background turns from white to blue. And it also reduces the image size also. I'm quite confused.

I thought that maybe it was just the way it appears in the display, but when I open the fire sure enough its got a blue background now and is smaller in size.

any help would be appreciated.
