Surely someone has a way to make Mail access secure besides a System (machine) level password. One can lock documents, or make them hidden, but can we lock Mail Folders at the App level? Entourage? Thunderbird? Relying on Webmail is not the answer for me.

Suppose your iPhone, iPad, MacBook is sitting there unattended and the only thing standing between your rival, co-worker, etc... reading your mail is a Click? What about shared devices?

Does no one write System level intercepts to not allow access to an App without a password?

To be sure Apple would have to do for the iPad or phone, but save encryption... no thanks..., our email is very vulnerable to outside access.
Maybe this is a non-issue to most everyone else.

Seems like a good programming opportunity as well.
Thoughts?

If security is a concern, then don't leave the device unattended. You can always lock the screen to prevent people from casually snooping around if you step away. Security is in the control of the user, you just have to use your noggin. Apple can't protect you from yourself.
