Mail account set up

Hi

I am having problems setting up a new mail account on my dads new mac.

I have all the settings correct, but for some reason I cant receive incoming mail.

I have deleted the account and tried to set it up again but keep having the same problem.

When I enter the account details in the Welcome to Mail set up screen I get an error message saying "mail cannot send your password securely to the server" I get an option to continue past this, but even then it still doesn't work.

Hope someone can help.
