Dear all

Are there any alternatives to the additional capabilities Mail-Act-On provides for filtering messages?

Has anyone else who uses Mail-act-on had any problems with duplicate messages being generated? I was having a problem where by any messages filtered using the Mail-act-on rule, might also get picked up by, lower down the order, non mail-act-on rules and thus get duplicated. I.e. moved twice from the inbox. However it didn't affect every message so appeared to be random but clearly behind the scenes wasn't.

It took them over a year to fix this bug but they did recently manage to release a fix. I was even given a beta version to try. Once it was included in the next official release the bug wasn't even listed in the bugs fixed section of the release notes. Therefore I don't know if I was the sole person to experience this bug, which is why they took so long to actually fix it, or whether it was more wide spread.

However whilst fixing it they have introduced another, which also duplicates messages but differently. All my Mail rules that invoke a mail-act-on rule have an additional rule which says move the messages. In most cases it doesn't list a folder to move them to and if I tried to save the rule, without choosing one it says I must chose one.

However if I remove the move part of the rule from the rule, it reappears when I next open the rule up. Thus I can't remove it. I of course never said up such things. This of course only affects the rules that link in a Mail-Act-On rule.

The upside of this is that some but not all my message are being duplicated by appearing in my inbox as well as the folders they should be appearing in. Others however are not even reaching the correct folder but remaining in my inbox solely.

I have spent quite some hours in the past sorting out the duplicate messages and removing the duplicates. It's getting quite frustrating having to do this. However I don't know of any other software which does the same job as Mail-Act-On.

So I feel as if they don't have to bother fixing their bugs too quickly because there is no one out their taking away their business if they don't. Right at this stage I couldn't recommend Mail-Act-On to any one.
