Mail and no pinch to zoom

Why is it that the is no pinch to zoom/resize in the native mail application? With Safari or Pages, resizing is easy, pinch and zoom. However with mail, when composing or reading specific emails, I have to use the magnifying glass (control + scroll) which then makes it hard to flip back and forth between apps or I can increase the font to an annoying huge size for anyone who receives it. Am I dong something wrong or is this something that will get fixed in 10.11?
