Mail app acting up big time

so i just set up a new icloud email and synced it to my desktop just fine in the mail app.

i went to sync it on my macbook and it says it cannot connect, i open preferences and it doesnt have an incoming server but it also doesnt let me edit it. then whenever i start trying to connect the icloud account the mail app gets all screwy with beachballs and really sluggish behavior.

but yeah the app never lets me connect my icloud mail, which is weird because all of my other accounts are working great.

any help?
