mail.app - all accounts share "Sent" and "Trash"?

The one thing that bugs me about mail.app is that it doesn't appear that I can get true separation of my various accounts. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. This is what I perceive:

I can setup an Exchange mail account.
I can setup a Gmail mail account.

I will see an inbox for the Exchange account.
I will see a folder list for the Exchange account.
I will see an inbox for the Gmail account.
I will see a folder list for the Gmail account.

However, mail.app will combine sent mail from both of these accounts into a single "Sent" folder with no way to separate this out.

Is this correct? Is there any way to get complete folder separation (including sent and trash) for multiple accounts in mail.app?

You don't have arrows to the left of Sent and Trash that you can click to see items for each account?
