The find feature in mail.app does not work anymore. I used to be able to type in a search such as "mike" and I could find all the e-mails that had the word "mike" etc in it. Now I get back almost nothing no matter what I put into the search field.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there are solution.

Thanks

Maybe you haven't selected the right mailbox try clicking on the inbox and when its highlighted search again. This may help.

I've tried that.

I've tried searching in specific folders, general folders, inbox, sent mail. All of them. Even when searching my own name I get almost nothing. It seems to be getting worse.

Under mail, prefernces, general try checking all the options while searching and see if there is an improvement

same here, stopped around 10.4.9. I'm on G4's, what are you on?

I'm on a Macbook Pro. So it isn't a speed thing. Even my mom's iBook can do basic searches.

I think it might be my hard drive. I checked it with Disk Utility's "verify disk" and it came back with a lot of warnings. I'm going to back everything up and then take it to the apple store this weekend.

Download Onyx and reset your Spotlight index.

Thanks for the tip, but it still doesn't find things properly. If I type my name it and search "entire" message and all mailboxes or specific mailbox I get nothing when I should get a lot of things because most of the e-mails I receive start with "Hi Bob" etc.

I ran Onyx and got a disk error problem so I'm going to back everything up tonight and take it to the apple store before it fails on me.
