Mail app, go back to good old POP

Can someone tell me if its possible to use the mail app in the traditional pop mode?

I *&% hate the imap gmail in snow leopard, my inbox (and whole mail app) is a total mess now, and there seems to be no way to create an gmail account with pop

If the mail app can't do its job, I'll have to try something else such as thunderbird.

You have to enable POP3 in Gmail first: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13287
then you can use those settings to configure Mail to use POP3 instead of IMAP.

What problem are you having with gmail imap? I've been using it reliably for a while now... of course all setups / requirements are different.

I was wrong on IMAP, it was my my screwed setting trying to do gmail push on my iphone causing the problem.

btw, every iphone & gmail user should take a look at google sync if you haven't
