Mail.app going out of control

My Mail.app is going nuts with CPU and memory on a 27" iMac. CPU use is 100% and memory climbs up until it maxes out the iMac's 32 GB of RAM.

Not sure what could be causing this? Been using Mail for ages and never had this happen before. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
