Mail App Inbox Empty

I have just started to use Mail to handle my hotmail account, so I followed the steps here and clicked on 'Get Mail'. I see a status bar appear briefly showing the app getting 3109 or 3109 messages but nothing shows up in the inbox pane. Only two folders exist, Inbox and Sent and both are empty (except sent has one test email in that i sent).

I'm obviously missing something huge here <sigh>
