Mail App Keeps Freezing

I have a 2010 MBP and my mail app keeps freezing. I haven't been able to use it in months because every time I open it, it just freezes. I used to have 4 email accounts linked to it, so I thought maybe I had too much incoming/stored mail. I was able to delete 2 accounts and some of the mail from the remaining 2 accounts. However, it is still slow and freezes whenever I try to open it.

Anyone know why this could be happening?
My browsers has also been freezing and I don't know if the problems could be linked. I posted about that problem here:
