OK, so I only started using mac mail app a couple of years ago and I only use it for business stuff, which is small, so I get almost no junk and a small flow of incoming emails.

Anyway, I notice I have 400+ items in the trash can, so instinctively I R click & 'erase deleted items'. Nothing. No warning, no spinning wheel, it just asks me if I want to delete the trash Items, but when I click yes, it does nothing.

I jumped on Google and found a few threads saying rebuild the mailbox. Did that. Nothing. Restarted, you guessed it - nothing.

It just seems to ignore my request completely.

Any help?

Cheers.

What are you mail server settings? Is the mail you are trying to delete a local mailbox or a server mailbox? Many server based systems can have some delay built in to protect users from their own stupidity :)

Alternatively, did you select the mail messages in your trash folder before you select the delete messages function?
