Mail app has lately been failing to update my emails from yahoo. I added and re added the mail box. It works on and off and sometimes says failed

Anyone else?

I've been having problems since yesterday. Thunderbird wasn't updating but the iPhone was. Today, Thunderbird is updating again but my iPhone stopped updating. Funny thing is that the iPhone is reporting that the email is up to date. But the messages aren't downloading.

I am having this problem a lot at the moment. So much so that it is almost unusable if you rely on reading emails quickly after being sent.
For the first time in ~20 years I am now thinking of moving to gmail.
It would be a massive effort to change everything to the new email address.

Since writing my last post I took the plunge and decoded to move to gmail.
it is an ongoing project, but I am mostly done.

As for yahoo itself, I had installed the Yahoo app for those occasions when it is playing up and I am in a hurry. But this is very much not needed now that I have moved to gmail.

Yea for me it’s just harder to move everything. What is the deal with yahoo it’s been months.

I think after 20 years it is just hard for anybody.
I am not finished yet, and I know some stuff will take a long time still, as I cannot safely change the address until some processes that could take months are completed.

Curiously, changing my Apple ID was one of the most disrupting things so far.

I just knew I had to take the pain and do it.
It was just no longer sustainable.
All of that said, Yahoo seems to have improved Intel last few days.

Gmail? You know googles creepy ways?

If you’re going to move, go protonmail

They should just fix this. It wasn’t like this before December. This is ridiculous.

People need to report it on the betas

What makes you think the issue is with Apple and not Yahoo? Are you using IMAP or POP? Has Yahoo changed the mail ports and you have not updated the client? Mail is fairly simple and most problems can be traced to the provider changing ports, not the email application.

Who said that the issue is with Apple?
I have no doubt whatsoever that is it a Yahoo issue.
I have zero problems with my gmail accounts.

Posting on Apple forums would seem to indicate you think it is an Apple problem.

Then the question would be better asked on Yahoo forums.
I assume that when you say “you”, you actually mean the original poster and not me.
In any case the OP is an Apple user and he’s asking other apple users for advise, in case something can be done on the client side to remedy the situation.
It seems a sensible move to me. That’s what people do on an online community.

I can also see that the OP is prompting people to report this problem “on the betas”.
Frankly I don’t understand this comment either.
Maybe he does refer to Apple beta releases, in which case I would agree with you that it would be wasted time.
I am quite convinced that this is purely a Yahoo problem.

That would be true.

I would put the blame squarely on Yahoo changing a configuration. All my email problems, on my W11 machine, my iPhone, my iPad, my MBA2, have all been related to problems with the email provider, not with my email client.

Unless one were to count port assignment issues and encryption settings in the client as client problems.
Standard ports no longer work because the mail provider changes ports. Is that a client problem or provider problem?

Configured, and previously working client no longer works because the provider changed ports. Is that a client problem or provider problem?

Most providers don't change ports without some significant overlap to allow people time to adjust. With Yahoo, who knows. My wife has a Yahoo account and my experience has been that Yahoo is being run by clowns.

The yahoo app fixed the issue but I wish I had this all within the mail app.

The yahoo mail def was broken since December and no one there cares.
