All of a sudden, outgoing messages on a gmail account linked via IMAP to Mail.app are not going out. I get a smtp server can't be contacted (paraphrasing) error.

Incoming mail works fine.

The whole process worked great for several weeks and then stopped.

I deleted the account from mail.app and readded it - it worked for a couple sent mails and then started failing again.

It causes an annoying pop-up because it keeps trying to resend the message every so often, and fails because the smtp server can't be contacted.

Other computers on my network synced to other gmail accounts are working fine.

I am really stumped! Help!

I'm thinking it is a server problem with Gmail that will eventually get corrected. But others will probably have their opinion as well.

For over a week? Is anyone else having this problem?

I guess I'll delete it and try again! Wish me luck.

OK it's working.

I deleted the account from Mail, went into my keychain and deleted every reference to Gmail.

Then reset it up. I noticed that it defaulted the SMTP port to 25, and it is supposed to be 587 (I believe I'm remembering this after the fact).

Let it resync, and it's going. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the help!

Hmmm mine is defaulted as server port 25 too, I am having no problems with it...
