Mail app refuses to quit (10.7.1)

Hi all,

So yeah, Mail has been refusing to quit on my Mac since yesterday. The window itself closes when I use cmd+q, but it stays lit up in the dock and still shows in Activity Monitor. Furthermore in this state the window refuses to reopen when I choose it from my applications folder. I have to use force quit in AM after every time I use it.

Anybody capable of shedding any light on the issue?

No help with fixing it unfortunately

But I have been having this since SL, only rarely though, force quit and start up again and it is fine
