Mail.app renders PDF attachment as video

This is a bizarre bug where an email I've received containing a PDF attachment is rendered not as clickable PDF icon, but a QuickTime video.

Needless to say, the video controls don't work (why would they?). Does anyone know how to fix this bug?

The account is an iCloud email account and using Mail.app on 10.9.2.

EDIT: Performing a full sync on the account made no difference.
