Mail.app sending via Googlemail takes wuite long

Hello there,

I set up my googlemail-account to send and receive my mail via IMAP, and while receivin mail is a breeze, sending always takes about 20 seconds to connect and authorize my account data before an outgoing mail is sent.

Is this normal? I strictly followed google's instructions while setting up the account.
