Mail app won't permently delete mail on computer

It deletes the stuff on the email accounts on the net, but it wont delete stuff its downloaded onto my comp. I select it, and delete it, and then when I come back to the mail app, its there again. Ive tried the erase deleted mail option, but it still shows up the next time i got to the mail app. Any ideas what to do?
 
Im having a siilar problem when deleting a mailbox. I deleted a mail box hours ago and its still there :/
 
Have you tried rebuilding the mailbox(es) in Mail?

Highlight the mailbox(es) and select Mailbox-->Rebuild. The messages will disappear and reappear as the mailbox rebuilds. It might take a few minutes depending on how many messages it has to work through.
