every time I close the mail application to shut off the computer, it stays open..I have to force quit MAil, every time...I'm on Lion, has anyone else encounter this?....

This happens to me as well but not every shutdown/logoff. If you wait it out... mail will eventually stop and finish. Quite annoying.
It happens to me also though not every time but enough to be annoying when having to force quit mail. It doesn't happen to other apps when I close them including my browser, so it appears to be just with the mail. *
to fix this?
I use IMAP and experience this problem occasionally. No mail plug-ins. Does it just enough to really irritate me. Any known solutions yet?
I have the same setting, definitely a bug....and yes it happens often enough that it cannot be overlooked !
