Mail Application

I have just upgraded to Yosemite and two issues I have noticed are:

1. I searched through spotlight for an email and opened it. Now I cannot close it. Pressing on the red button it does not respond. Closing and opening mail application the problem still persists - it opens also the other window.

2. When opening a new mail it does not allow you to go back to your inbox. You have to either save it and close the window or send it.

Any help on these issues?
